Housing Rights in Action in Southampton

Sat, 16 Mar 2024, 11:00 - 14:30

Southampton Law School - Building 4, Room 4003 4 University Road Southampton SO17 1BJ United Kingdom

The housing crisis has become an everyday feature of life in cities across the UK, and further afield. This workshop will explore key aspects of the housing crisis in Southampton and shed light on tenants' rights in relation to topics including 'no fault' evictions, student housing, repair and housing conditions, licencing of rented housing, rent repayment orders and the Renters Reform Bill.

The workshop is open to the public and will hear presentations from local tenant organisers in Southampton Tenants Union (STU) about the everyday reality of renting in the city and will include presentations from housing lawyers, academics and others about the realisation of housing rights for tenants in the city. The workshop will be of interest to private renters and, in particular, to students, as well as those who want to learn about the housing crisis, tenant organising, and housing rights.

The workshop has been organised by the People, Property and Community Research Centre at Southampton Law School in collaboration with Southampton Tenants Union. The workshop has been designed to encourage lively in person discussions in an informal and relaxed academic setting and it will not be recorded or have a remote component. Please note, the presentations at the workshop do not constitute legal advice and those presenting cannot offer individual legal advice.
