A DEMOCRATIC, TENANT-LED UNION ORGANISING RENTERS IN SOUTHAMPTON
We are the Tenant Union for people living in the SO postcode area - Southampton, Winchester, and the surrounding area. Formed in late 2022, our mission is to build solidarity in our communities, between renters, and between everyone else, to tackle the housing crisis with collective action.
WHO ARE WE?
Our city, like the rest of the country, is beset by the housing crisis. Rent is too high, housing is low-quality and expensive to heat, absentee landlords run rampant while tenants suffer in mouldy accommodation - and there is little political will to fix any of this. It’s a landlord’s market and a landlord’s government. We as tenants can only change things for ourselves by getting organised and taking collective action.
The Housing Crisis
If you rent where you live within Southampton or the wider area, you are eligible for membership. Joining the union grants you access to exclusive STU events including socials and meetings, as well as granting you voting rights at local branch and all-union meetings. It’s also the best way to throw your support behind us as we work to build tenant power and fight for real change in our city.

Southampton with its two universities benefits from the presence of many students from all over the globe. Being young or inexperienced makes you vulnerable to landlord exploitation. Don’t suffer in silence, as a tenants’ union we have a Student Division working together with the universities to help you with any housing issues.

NEWS AND EVENTS
We organise public meetings, workshops, stalls, protests and other events around the city - with the housing and cost of living crises coalescing and compounding each other, there has never been a better time to unite with your neighbours and get involved with the Southampton Tenants Union.
