Southampton Tenants Union to speak at Greenpeace day for Climate Action

Under an economic system which puts profits before people, both private and social housing units have become plagued with cost-cutting measures leading to poorly insulated, damp and energy inefficient homes. Renters and the environment suffer as a result, while landlords and energy corporations continue to get rich off the back of this exploitation.

As a new and growing tenants union standing with renters all across Southampton, we are very excited to have been invited to speak at a global day of action called for by the COP28 Coalition, as world leaders once again meet to discuss the ever-worsening climate crisis. The demonstration is organised locally by Greenpeace Southampton, who we look forward to continuing to support.

The climate crisis and the housing crisis are linked, and we will be speaking briefly at the rally about these connections. We are stronger when we struggle together, and we are proud to be able to stand in solidarity with all of the good people planning to attend this important day of action addressing the climate crisis. Our fight for affordable, safe and secure housing across Southampton is also a fight for housing which is “green”: affordability and sustainability must go hand in hand.

If you are able to attend the demonstration, please do - it really does make a difference. We need everyone to come together to create the world we so desperately need: one where all of our futures are secure.

WHEN: Saturday 9th December 12:45
